Unit 5 Notes!

Chapter 15 covers quite an extensive scope of conversation from how to look for jobs to writing acceptance or rejection letters/emails. That's why we are going to move forward as we accomplish smaller tasks. This week, we are focusing on "Determining the Best Job for You" section from Chapter 15 and the Weekly Post that is due for this week is an excellent preparation for you to start thinking about how to look for jobs. It is essential to have a clear understanding about how to search for the right jobs because the job ad itself is going to inform you about the broader expectations of your target field and specific expectations of your target audience. The section we are reading from Chapter 15 offers you different resources and platforms for professional networking and finding jobs. In addition to those resources, also take a look at the resources UTEP's University Career Center has for finding jobs: https://www.utep.edu/student-affairs/careers/students-alumni/Job%20Sites.html

It is also important for you to start thinking about the digital platform you want to use to create your e-portfolio. I used Wix to create mine: http://edaozyp.com

Remember that I am part of an academic field and my e-portfolio is organized and designed according to the academic discourse and audience expectations. I am sharing my e-portfolio as an example, not as an outline or sample that you should duplicate to create your e-portfolios. On the contrary, using the structure and organization of my e-portfolio as a model for yours might work against you because of the academic focus and orientation of my e-portfolio. Instead, I am sharing me e-portfolio to offer you an idea and hopefully spark some inspiration and creativity as you work on organizing and designing yours. Here is the list of different platforms that are free and great for creating clean e-portfolios:

1) Behance: https://www.behance.net--I also have a Behance portfolio that I use to display my creative work, which you can access via my main portfolio: edaozyp.com

2) Adobe Portfolio: https://portfolio.adobe.com

3) Adobe Spark: https://spark.adobe.com

4) IMCreator: https://www.imcreator.com

5) Moonfruit: https://www.moonfruit.com

6) Weebly: https://www.weebly.com/?lang=en

7) WordPress: https://www.weebly.com/?lang=en

8) Squarespace: https://www.squarespace.com

9) Google Sites: https://gsuite.google.com/products/sites/

10) PortfolioBox: https://www.portfoliobox.net

These are different options for you to explore. As you make your decision, think about your target discourse/community of professional practice and audience. Try to narrow your options down to three possible platforms by the end of this week.
