Unit 8 Notes!

What do we know about rhetoric?

What is Visual Rhetoric then?

Let's take a look at this website: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/visual_rhetoric/visual_rhetoric/index.html

Simply put, it is persuasion through visual means--composing with visuals.

But, in the context of our global world, visual communication moved beyond only communication with visuals. We are in a state of multi-modal/multi-media communication that combines multiple mediums and modes of communication in an intercultural communicational setting.

What is Multi-Modal and Multi-Media Composition/Communication?

What Do We Exactly Mean by "Multimodal"?

**Combination of multiple modes of communicational mediums that can be categorized under three main categories:

1. Oral

2. Visual

3. Verbal

Creating a multimodal argument requires you to combine oral, visual, and verbal communicational mediums.

What Do We Exactly Mean by "Multimedia"?

**Combination of multiple modes of digital mediums

So, as you work on your formal multimedia reports, you need to combine different digital mediums which will help you to combine oral, visual, and verbal communicational tools to deliver your academic/written arguments to your audience.

Different Digital Media Platforms/Tools to Prepare Effective and Engaging Multimedia/Multimodal Documents!

We are already aware of Adobe Spark! It is a free digital media platform to prepare professional documents, which allows you to incorporate other media into your documents. But, Adobe Spark is not your only option. Here is a list of different platforms and genres you can use:

1) Microsoft Sway (Free!): https://sway.office.com

2) Infographics (which could be used as a media implemented to your main platform): https://www.easel.ly

Piktochart: https://piktochart.com You can use this one not only to create infographics, but it has a feature to create presentations (could be your main platform) and other mediums such as posters and flyers.

Infogram: https://infogram.com Another digital tool to create infographics in addition to charts, maps, dashboards, and social media visuals.

3) Visme: https://www.visme.co

4) Google Slides: https://www.google.com/slides/about/

5) Keynote: https://www.apple.com/keynote/

6) Ludus: https://ludus.one

You can create different sections of your report by using different multimedia tools (infographics, flyers, charts, videos, posters, etc.)  and put everything together in a main digital platform such as a website (you already know how to create one since you worked on Assignment 2).

7) If you are interested in using various other apps available in Adobe Creative Cloud, you can without actually paying for it. UTEP has an active purchase agreement with Adobe, which allows you to have access to the creative cloud only via selected computers on campus:
